The concept began with NASA in the 1970's. The concept they were looking for was seat cushions for the astronauts to protect them during liftoff. They developed the memory foam but discovered that the tightly controlled environment or atmosphere caused the material to break down and release fumes. They ended up selling the technology to a Swedish company named Fagerdala.

There are many benefits to the memory foam pillow. Snoring is reduced because the better alignment of the spine means a better alignment of the breathing passages. The pillow completes the alignment of the spine. It reduces stress and pressure on the neck by supporting the neck properly. Allergy sufferers benefit, too. In choosing the pillow you will need to decide on what density you like. Densities commonly range from 3 to 5 lb. A density somewhere in the middle of these two extremes will probably give the best results. You want a pillow that's not too soft, but not too hard either.
